Caren Mason | President and Chief Executive Officer, STAAR Surgical

Caren Mason has more than 30 years of healthcare operating experience in leading public companies, start-up technology ventures and large corporate business units in life sciences, health care information and medical/surgical devices. She is currently President and CEO of STAAR Surgical, a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of implantable lenses and companion delivery systems for the eye. Caren assumed her position as President and CEO of STAAR on March 1, 2015 after having served on the Board of Directors since June of 2014. Under her leadership, STAAR has risen to prominence as a high growth medical device company in Ophthalmic refractive surgery more than tripling sales while achieving sustainable profitability and delivering exceptional shareholder value increasing the company’s market valuation from $250 million in 2015 to over $3 billion dollars today. Prior to leading STAAR Surgical, Caren was CEO of Verinata Health, President and CEO of Quidel Corporation, President and CEO of MiraMedica and CEO of EMed Technologies. Her other positions in healthcare include General Manager of the Women’s Healthcare business for General Electric Healthcare, Senior Vice President for Bayer Corporate Health Care and Senior Vice President for Bayer’s AGFA Technical Imaging Business Group. Caren began her career in healthcare with American Hospital Supply/Baxter Healthcare and is a graduate of Indiana University. She is currently on the Board of STAAR Surgical, the Advisory Board of InDevR, the Board of the Medical Device Manufacturer’s Association, the Board of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Foundation, the American Executive Committee of the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery and the Board of Beyond Blindness.
