Meet Our Founders

Octane was built on the vision and leadership of four pioneering founders who have left an indelible mark on the technology and life sciences sectors:

  • Dwight Decker, Retired Chairman & CEO of Conexant Systems, Inc., brings a wealth of experience in semiconductor technology and telecommunications, driving innovation in complex systems.
  • Jim Mazzo, Executive Chairman of Neurotech, is a recognized leader in ophthalmology and medical devices, with a passion for advancing healthcare solutions.
  • Michael A. Mussallem, Chairman & CEO of Edwards Lifesciences, has been at the forefront of life-saving innovations in heart valve technology, shaping the future of medical care.
  • Tom Moebus, Founder & Principal of TenXGrow, has a track record of fostering business growth and innovation, with deep expertise in economic development.

These visionary leaders co-founded Octane with a shared mission: to create a thriving ecosystem for innovation, supporting startups and driving technological advancements that change lives. Their legacy continues to inspire and propel Octane’s mission forward.

Since its creation in 2002, Octane has grown from a small non-profit started by community leaders to an ecosystem-changing organization. We need your support to continue the legacy. By connecting ideas and people with resources and capital, Octane will continue to create one of the nation’s most dynamic ecosystems for driving technology growth.

We firmly believe that action focused locally has a ripple effect globally. By supporting Octane, you are not just investing in a regional initiative but becoming a part of a global movement. The companies we nurture have a far-reaching impact, making a positive difference on a global scale.

Why Continue the Legacy of Octane?

Octane provided a VERY hands-on and detailed review of our seed fundraising deck. Our pitch review session was like a mentorship one on one. Literally on the same day after making pitch deck adjustments, we closed an angel investor. 5 days later, we signed a SAFE note for $25k. And 3 more in the following week. The LaunchPad feedback really made an impact!
Andris Merkulov

CEO, Monetizr

I think it is one of the most impressive recent accomplishments of octane to see not only the board, but the programmatic efforts really be highly diverse and to help people of all backgrounds really be able to become technology champions and start companies and create movements that might not have happened if it wasn’t for Cctane.
Mike Mussallem

Chairman & CEO, Edwards Lifesciences Co-Founder, Octane

I hope the legacy of Octane will continue with the Impact Fund as it will impact the future generations. We need to create jobs. We’re going to create high paying jobs so that we have a fulfillment here for a family. We want people to understand that Orange County is a great place to live, a great place to work.
